Credit Card Deals after Christmas

Unfortunately, the holiday season is over. For many Americans this Christmas didn't bring only cheerful moments and presents, but also a huge credit card debt. During the last couple of months Americans spent around $150 billion with their credit cards, which is $15 billion more than last year. There is no doubt that some credit card users got many benefits from their credit card deals, but for many others Christmas went hand to hand with credit card debt. One out of six families have more than $10,000 in credit card debt, isn't that alarming? It is time to take action! Holidays are not supposed to ruin your budget; you can be debt-free after Christmas!

Don't wait for your bills to arrive, start taking action today!

1. Create a financial plan.

Many people have financial problems simply because they don't plan their budget. If you really want to get out and stay out of credit card debt, you should understand your financial condition. Make a list of your monthly spendings. It is very easy to figure out that if you spend more than you earn, you will definitely end up having financial problems!

The best thing you can do in this situation - is to reduce your spendings. Focus on spendings that are really necessary for you.

2. Stop using those cards.

You shouldn't think that your credit card is a license to spend! Even if you have point rewards credit card, don't get distracted by it! The best thing you can do in case of big credit card debt - is to quit using the cards for some time.

3. Prioritize.

Find out the amount of debt you owe on each card and the interest rates you are paying. You should pay off the card with the highest interest rate first. But don't forget making minimum payments on all other cards you have too.

4. Pay more than a minimum payment.

Remember that in case you are making only minimum payments, it will cost you thousands of dollars over time! You will spend a lot in interest and it is without taking into consideration other fees!

So in case you pay more than a minimum payment, you will be able to save money and avoid financial problems at the same time!

5. Transfer you debt.

If your card features high interest rate, transfer your debt on a lower-interest card. But watch out! Many credit cards have penalties and fees for balance transfers. So make sure that you read the fine print carefully or contact your credit card company before transferring balances between your cards.

6. Ask for advice.

If you have financial problems, it is wise to seek for help of professionals. But make sure that you choose the right organization to turn to! The best way out is to go to a well-known non-profit organization. The specialists will provide you wise a good piece of advice!

7. If you can't make a payment, contact your credit card company.

Most major credit card companies, like Visa or MasterCard will help you by taking a partial payment or deferring your payments.
