Do Credit Card Deals Ruin the American Dream?

Most of us try to live the American Dream. Almost everyone wants to have a nice big crib, expensive designed clothes and speedy cars. Many people also want to get the best credit card deals in order to buy all these things. Some people think that the American Dream was distorted by financial values. Very often people are judged by the brand of jeans they are wearing or by the number of cars they owe. It seems that consumer culture has taught us to judge people by their possessions. Today many products are tied to image and status and are not made to raise the quality of our life or our health.

Many people blame credit cards for total shopping mania. Two years ago, in 2006 over 8 billion appeals for the best credit cards were sent out to American consumers. They were asked to spend more and many of us followed this piece of advice. As a result, there was a great increase in credit card usage during the last couple of years.

Today many people are watching shows on MTV such as "Cribs", "The Real World" or "The Hills". The lifestyles of the rich and the famous became very contagious and now ordinary Americans want to live like rock stars!

Today credit card offers give them the chance to live the lives they were dreaming of!

But most Americans are trying to live the lives of people who are several rungs higher on the income ladder than them. It is impossible for the people with low or average income to live the same lives as people who earn millions of dollars!

Trying to catch up with lives of rich and important people, many Americans simply abuse their credit cards. They use new strategy "buy now, pay later" every day! At the gas stations they use their gasoline credit cards, in hotels they pay with hotel rewards credit cards, in journeys they benefit from frequent flyer credit cards. It seems that credit cards interfered in all spheres of our lives. As a result, in attempt to live beautiful lives many Americans fall into huge credit card debt.

Of course, consumerist culture stimulates the economy and generates thousands of jobs. All we have to do is to realize that more does not always mean better. We need to learn enjoying the things that we have in order to live happier and healthier lives!

Remember that too much shopping takes too much time. You can spend this time with your family, friends, community; you can go in for sports and achieve your goals. American Dream is not always materialistic; all people on the Earth share the same dream - to be happy! So enjoy your free and happy life and seize the day!
