Credit Card Penalty Charges - How to Avoid Them?

Deadlines are here and there, it seems like they're everywhere! We've got no room for errors, as they may cost us a pretty penny. This statement is especially true when it comes to credit payments. Late or missed payments may result in hefty late fees and sky-high default APRs. Needless to say how this can affect your score matters and your family budget.

But the most infuriating thing is that you can easily misuse your plastics through no fault of yours. To be more exact, your issuer may change the terms on your cards at any time for no obvious reason. Keeping track of these changes can be really a hard nut to crack. Learn how to avoid heavy penalty charges!

First off, it's getting more difficult to meet credit obligations due to shrinking grace periods. Back in the old days, cardholders used to enjoy a grace period of at least 30 days. But now 20-25-day periods are more common. The shorter a grace period, the more difficult it becomes to make on-time payments on your accounts.

But still you can avoid unintended consequences of late payments. For those who pay their bills by mail, the best option is to send their payments within a couple of days after receiving the credit statement. It's also a good idea to pay your bills online. It speeds up the process so that you can rest assured that your bills are paid on time.

The survey examined the reasons why customers choose to pay their bills online had very interesting results. 27% of those surveyed stated that the most striking benefit of online payments is convenience. Everything that you need is right at your finger tips - no hassle, no stamps, no stress! For 13% of customers, the most important benefit was the speed. They accepted that paying bills online is much faster and easier compared with paying by check.

In case new payment deadlines are inconvenient to you, you may ask your lender to change them. Fortunately enough, most lenders allows changing due dates and you can move them to a time that suits you most.

Anyway, when changing the terms on your account, credit issuers should warn you beforehand and give a notice. So, examine your credit statements carefully so that you can be prepared to the changes in future.

And even if you're hit with a credit penalty fee, it doesn't necessarily mean that there's no way-out for you. In case you pay the bills regularly and prove to be a good customer, you can call your issuer and ask to waive this fee. Probably this method doesn't work well for every single one. But if you're a valuable customer, the chances are your lender will meet you halfway.
